How awesome that you are considering a Commitment Ceremony!
A Commitment Ceremony is the perfect way for you to make a ceremonial “Vow of Love”. It is not legally binding and as such is not recognised by law; however, I am a firm believer that your love is no ones concern but your own. A commitment ceremony is a chance to celebrate your love intimately or in the presence of your family and friends. In Celtic cultures this type of ceremony was called a hand fastening and could be made for one year, five years or for a lifetime. While no hand fastening ritual needs to be performed, you may like to include this.
The Australian Government recognises de facto relationships after two years of a couple living together or if there is a child born of the relationship. You may like to start with two years, a trial period if you like, where you can get to know each other more intimately and then decide to commit for a longer period of time. Or, you may already have been together for many years and want to celebrate your commitment to one another. What ever your reason I would love to support you in creating a beautiful Commitment Ceremony.
Just like a marriage ceremony, but without the legal wording, you may like to include personal vows, stories of your life together, poetry, music and rituals. These are an expression of your love and commitment to each other. You may like to keep it simple or include others in your ceremony, the choices are endless. I am here to help you design a ceremony that is just right for you!
